Dr Oliver Guttmann is a Consultant Cardiologist for Inherited and Inflammatory Cardiovascular Diseases and Interventional Cardiology at St Bartholomew’s Hospital and Honorary Associate Professor at University College London.

Dr Guttmann consults in all areas of adult cardiology with a special interest in chest pain management and coronary intervention, including angioplasty and stenting.
He sees all patients with suspected and confirmed cardiomyopathies, especially myocarditis and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.

Research and qualifications

Qualifications: BA (Cantab, 1st class), MA (Cantab), MBBS, FRCP, FESC, MD (Res), Dr.med.

He studied medicine at Cambridge and University College London and graduated with a first-class BA (Hons) in neuroscience in 2002 and with a merit in medicine in 2005. He was awarded membership of the Royal College of Physicians in 2008 and completed cardiology training at the Heart Hospital, London Chest Hospital and Barts Heart Centre in 2017.

Awards & publications

His MD (Res) was awarded by University College London in 2016 for research in atrial fibrillation and stroke in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy funded by the British Heart Foundation.
He has published several articles on inherited an inflammatory heart muscle disease, risk stratification in cardiomyopathy and the study of outcomes after percutaneous coronary intervention.
He is the Clinical Lead for the Coronary Care Unit at Barts, also edits proposals for Cochrane Heart and is a member of the working group on pericardial and myocardial disease of the European Society of Cardiology and the Finance Committee of the British Cardiovascular Society.
